Yellowjackets is back with another shocking and gruesome season!
If you haven’t seen the show, Yellowjackets follows a group of teenage girls after their plane crashes in the Canadian wilderness, leaving them to figure out how to survive for nearly nine months. The show follows a dual timeline: the first follows the girls’ survival as they morph into a cannibalistic cult; and the second chronicles the survivors as adults, attempting to cope with the truth of what happened in the woods.
Fans can’t seem to get enough, especially considering new episodes are only coming out once a week — streaming on Fridays and then broadcast Sundays on Showtime. You might even say they are… Eating it up. From mysterious supernatural phenomena to jumping timelines, Manifest will certainly remind you of Yellowjackets (beyond just making you scared to get back on a plane). Manifest follows a group of passengers flying from Jamaica to New York. When they arrive, they learn that over five years have passed since they boarded the plane, despite their seemingly normal experience. As they rejoin society, they attempt to rebuild their lives and piece together what happened on Montego Air Flight 828.

Like Yellowjackets, The Society is a Lord of the Flies-eque mystery series about a group of teens who return from a school trip to discover the entire population of their town has vanished. Unable to reach the outside world, the group must set up their own society and survive with limited resources.

When recommending plane crash survival shows it would be impossible not to mention the most iconic of the bunch: Lost. Lost, which had a six-season run, follows the survivors of a plane crash as they navigate an eerie and mysterious tropical island. Packed with supernatural intrigue, interpersonal drama, and sinister creatures, there is a reason Lost is often considered one of the greatest adventure TV series of all time.

In 9 Perfect Strangers, Nicole Kidman’s Masha, a cultish guru and founder of a luxury wellness resort, is sure to remind you of Lottie in Yellowjackets. The show follows a group of guests who arrive at Masha’s resort for a 10-day retreat, but secrets and conflicts quickly arise as the resort may not be exactly what was advertised. Complete with a captivatingly sinister female cult leader and psychedelic-fueled montages, the music and cinematography of 9 Perfect Strangers has the same unsettling, yet engrossing tone as Yellowjackets.

The Stranded is a Thai drama about a group of students at an elite island boarding school. After a tsunami hits, they are stranded on the island with no cell service, medical assistance, or parents. Like Yellowjackets, there seems to be a mysterious supernatural force working against the group of teens as they struggle to survive and make contact with the mainland. Of course, there are a few romance subplots thrown in to make it a quintessential teen survival show.

Keep Breathing also takes place in the vast and unpredictable Canadian wilderness, and like Yellowjackets we see a beautiful contrast between the danger and beauty of the natural world. Throughout her terrifying and thrilling journey, a plane crash’s lone survivor, Liv, attempts to survive despite her limited experience. Like the characters in Yellowjackets, Liv’s previous trauma and emotional turmoil bubble to the surface while she also battles the pressing physical danger she is in.
