3 multimillion-dollar homes teetering on edge of California cliff after landslide, footage shows

Three multimillion-dollar mansions appear to be teetering off the edge of a California cliff after a recent landslide eroded land that was once their backyards, according to a video filmed by a local news chopper.

Heavy rains washed away a chunk of the cliff where the luxury homes — estimated to be worth up to $15.9 million — sit, the footage captured by ABC7’s helicopter shows.

A large pile of dirt, sand and rocks sits at the base of the cliff on a beach below the homes that sit atop Scenic Drive in Dana Point.

“I would be concerned if I lived in one of those homes,” Dana Point resident Jan Cocchiara told the local news station. “I don’t know if it’s because of all the development that the hill’s been compromised.”

But the city of Dana Point said all three homes were inspected and were not found to be in danger, ABC7 reported.

One of the homeowners also told the station that his house is secure and has not been “red-tagged” by the city.

Dana Point City Manager Mike Killebrew also said that access to the beach below where the debris now lays is not an issue.

“There are no structures jeopardized at this point, and it looks like no impact on the lateral beach access,” he told the Orange County Register.

The three adjacent homes are estimated by real estate company Redfin to be worth approximately $15.9 million, $14.1 million and $12.9 million a piece.

Powerful rainstorms have led to numerous landslides across Southern California over the past few days.
