Governor JB Pritzker defeated Republican State Senator Darren Bailey to win re-election
Tuesday night, the Associated Press projects.
Pritzker and Bailey worked to drum up last-minute support among their core bases ahead of Election Day. After greeting commuters Tuesday morning, both then cast their own ballots. Pritzker gathered supporters in Chicago Tuesday night, while Bailey held his event in Springfield.
U.S. House and Senate Races
Democratic U.S. Sen. Tammy Duckworth was also reelected Tuesday night, defeating Illinois political newcomer and lawyer Kathy Salvi, the Associated Press projected.
Illinois Congressional Races To Watch
Illinois state offices
Republicans could take over the Illinois Supreme Court for the first time in 50 years if they are successful in getting a 4-3 majority Tuesday, with issues like abortion and gun control likely to come before them in the coming years.
Two-term incumbent Democrat Sean Casten is facing off against Republlican candidate and Orland Park mayor, Keith Pekau, for Illinois’ remapped 6th Congressional District.
And Republican candidate Scott Gryder hopes to unseat incumbent Democratic congresswoman Lauren Underwood and turn Illinois’ 14th Congressional District red again.

Voting and voter turnout
Voter turnout has been strong in downtown Chicago so far. As of 5 p.m. election officials said over 37% of voters citywide have turned out to vote so far, with over 571,000 ballots already cast.
Downstate, election officials in Champaign County reported cyberattacks had slowed the voting process. The Illinois Board of Elections now says the issue has been “resolved.”

Ballot initiatives and other measures
Illinois voters will decide Tuesday whether to amend their state constitution to guarantee the right to bargain collectively.
The Illinois measure requires 60% of those voting on the question to vote “yes” for it to pass or 50% of all votes cast to be in favor of the question.
Indiana elections
Republicans are hoping to take Democratic Rep. Frank Mrvan’s northwestern Indiana congressional seat, which has been a Democratic stronghold since the 1930s in the GOP-dominated state.
Republican U.S. Sen. Todd Young has won his Indiana seat for a second term. Young’s win in Tuesday’s election came after he followed a front-runner strategy throughout his campaign that largely ignored Democratic challenger Thomas McDermott.
Wisconsin elections
Democratic Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers staked his bid Tuesday for a second term, facing against against Tim Michels.
