19-year NYC Sanitation vet killed while working in Queens

A New York City Sanitation worker died on the job in Queens on Saturday evening, according to local officials.

Richard Errico, a 19-year veteran of the department, appears to have been killed outside of the DSNY garage for District’s 11 and 13 in Douglaston, according to grisly photos from the scene.

The details of what happened were not immediately clear.

New York City Mayor Eric Adams and DSNY Commissioner Jessica Tisch, who were seen walking around the scene together Saturday night, confirmed Errico had died.

“Our thoughts tonight are with Richard’s family, friends, coworkers, and everyone who knew and loved him,” said Mayor Adams in a statement, adding that he had met with his relatives.

“Richard kept our streets and communities safe and clean for more than 19 years, and we should all be keeping Richard and his family in our prayers,” he added.

Errico served the people of Douglaston, Littleneck, and Bayside during his time as one of New York’s Strongest, Tisch said.

“He did it proudly. I ask all New Yorkers to pray for his family,” she said.

The Post has reached out to DSNY for additional information about the incident.
