14 Valentine’s Day Movies Streaming on Netflix in 2025

Watching Valentine’s Day movies on Netflix is the perfect Valentine’s Day date idea in 2025. For one thing, it’s cheap! Who can afford to eat eggs and go to the movie theater right now?

For another, Netflix has a wide selection of romantic movies streaming in 2025. Whether you’re looking for a light-hearted romantic comedy or a angsty romance to tug on your heart strings, Netflix has something for everyone to watch with that special someone in your life.

And if you’re celebrating alone, it’s a perfect way to turn off your brain and indulge in a romantic story that would probably never happen in real life.  It might not reflect the state of your current love life, but that’s why they call it fantasy, right?

Let’s be honest: the best Valentine’s Day movies are ones where hot people fall in love and make out and stuff. Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell do those things very well in this modern-day adaptation of William Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing. Sweeney stars as Bea, a law student who goes on an amazing first date with a finance bro, Ben (Powell). But the next morning, Bea sneaks out, changes her mind, comes back… and overhears Ben shit-talking her to his roommate. Years later, both Bea and Ben are in the wedding party for Bea’s sister. They insist that they hate each other. But it’s a fine line between hate and love.

  • All The Bright Places on Netflix: Stream It or Skip It?

In the mood for some angst with your romance this Valentine’s Day? Then try All the Bright Places on Netflix, a YA romance based on Jennifer Niven’s bestselling 2015 novel of the same name. Elle Fanning stars as Violet, a teen girl grieving the death of her sister, and Justice Smith as Theodore Finch, a teen boy who saves her life. Together, these two troubled teens “wander” their home state of Indiana. They fall in love. But while Finch is helping Violet process her grief, Finch is dealing with dark moods and mental health issues himself. Fair warning: A cute rom-com this is not. All the Bright Places deals with dark subjects, including severe depression, grief, and death.

  • Elliot Page in Close to You
    Photo: Mongrel Media

Co-written by Elliot Page with director Dominic Savage, this moving family drama and romance stars Page as Sam, a transgender man who returns to his childhood home in Lake Ontario, Canada for the first time in years—and for the first time since coming out as trans. Though not autobiographical, Sam’s journey shares similarities with Page, who came out publicly as transgender in 2020. The story feels deeply personal, and speaks to the uncomfortable nuance between tolerance, acceptance, understanding, and celebration. And, as a treat, the movie is also a sweet love story when Sam reconnects with his childhood crush. We love to see it.

It doesn’t need to be that deep this Valentine’s Day. You can just watch a silly action movie with a dash of romance! Netflix has you covered with this new action comedy, starring Cameron Diaz and Jamie Foxx star as spies who fall in love over covert missions and decide to retire when they learn they’re having a baby. Fast-forward 15 years: They live in the suburbs with two kids, using their espionage skills to spy on their 16-year-old daughter (McKenna Roberts). In their defense, she totally has a secret boyfriend and sneaks out to the club. Plus, they kinda miss the action. Then an old case gets dredged up, and these middle-aged parents are back in it for real, in order to save their kids. Back in Action is fun, silly, and boasts some impressive and ambitious set pieces.

  • QUEEN AND SLIM REVIEW

This romantic crime drama—written by The Chi creator Lena Waithe and directed by Grammy-winner Melina Matsoukas—has only gotten more relevant with time. Daniel Kaluuya and Jodie Turner-Smith star as a young couple who go on the run from the law after killing a white police officer in self-defense. As you might expect, this is not a light-hearted rom-com, but it is a gripping and emotional romance, and a fresh spin on the Bonnie and Clyde trope.

  • Lonely Planet. (L-R) Laura Dern as Katherine Loewe and Liam Hemsworth as Owen Brophy in Lonely Planet.

Cougars need some Valentine’s Day love, too. Written and directed by Susannah Grant (also known for penning Oscar-nominated script for Erin Brockovich), Lonely Planet is the latest entry in the recent surge of older women/younger men romances. And it’s incredibly watchable. Laura Dern stars as a successful novelist named Katherine Loewe, who attends a prestigious writer’s retreat in Morocco and falls into a romantic entanglement with a younger man, Owen Brophy, played by Hunger Games hunk Liam Hemsworth. Dern and Hemsworth circle each other with heated looks and sizzling chemistry—including some very sexy nuzzling. The Moroccan setting is always vibrant and interesting, and the plot is comforting in its familiarity. You know where these two are headed, and you’re so happy when they get there.

  • 13 GOING ON 30, Mark Ruffalo, Jennifer Garner, 2004,

I don’t care what critics at the time had to say about it,13 Going on 30 is a classic, starring Christa B. Allen as a 13-year-old in 1987 who magically gets transported to the year 2004 into the body of her 30-year-old self (Jennifer Garner). The “suddenly in the future” antics are fun, but the real appeal lies in the epic romance between Garner and Mark Ruffalo. “Jenna, I’ve always loved you,” remains of the most romantic line of my childhood. It’s the perfect Valentine’s Day watch for millennials.

  • THE LOST CITY, (aka LOST CITY OF D), from left: Sandra Bullock, Channing Tatum, 2022

The Lost City is easily one of my favorite rom-coms of the 2020s. The jokes are laugh-out-loud funny, but the real magic comes from the chemistry—both romantic and comedic—between leads Sandra Bullock and Channing Tatum. Both are in top form in roles that are perfect for them: the too-smart-for-this-bullshit romance author (Bullock) and the sweet-but-simple male model himbo (Tatum). Through a series of surprisingly believable events, the two end up lost in a deadly jungle together. Daniel Radcliffe ties it all together as the hilarious maniacal billionaire with an inferiority complex, proving what Harry Potter fans already knew—that dude is freakin’ funny. It’s a guaranteed laugh and a nice reminder that Bullock is still the rom-com queen.

  • Hugh Grant dances in Love Actually
    Photo: HBO

Sure, Love, Actually is more of a Christmas movie, but let’s be honest—you wouldn’t mind an excuse to watch this Richard Curtis classic more than once a year, would you? It’s a classic for a reason, with that unforgettable ensemble cast of some of England’s finest actors. Even if you hate that Mariah Carey song, you’ll come away from Love, Actually loving love.

  • Zoey Deuch and Glen Powell in 'Set It Up'
    Photo: Netflix

We’ll stop putting Glen Powell movies on Valentine’s Day movies lists when the man stops making such good romantic comedies! If you’re a Powell stan who hasn’t yet watched his Netflix rom-com Set It Up, I’m truly so excited for you. Set It Up works so well because the leads have so much darn chemistry. Zoey Deutch and Powell both play assistants to bosses who are making their lives hell—so they decide to try to make their lives easier by getting their bosses laid. But in the process of setting up that romance, sparks fly between each other. You won’t be able to stop watching until these two finally lock lips.

  • Always Be My Maybe
    Photo: Ed Araquel / Netflix

For those looking for to keep the “childhood friends to lovers” trope going this Valentine’s Day, look no further than Always Be My Maybe, an adorable romantic comedy starring Ali Wong and Randall Park. Sasha (Wong) and Marcus (Park) have led two very different lives since they were friends as kids—Sasha is rich and successful; Marcus, not so much. But Marcus has always held a candle for her Sasha, so when they reunite, the timing might just be right. As a bonus, this movie features one of the best celebrity cameos of all time.

Can we get some love for the single ladies, please? If you’re single on Valentine’s Day, Someone Great is an excellent romantic comedy to watch on Netflix this weekend. Starring Gina Rodriguez and LaKeith Stanfield, it’s a film that had something new to offer the romantic comedy genre: A message that romantic love doesn’t—and can’t—always fix everything. That may not be quite as fun as a big romantic gesture, but it is more honest.

  • The Half Of It - Leah Lewis, Alexxis Lemire -

Tired of seeing only straight couples on your social feeds this Valentine’s Day? Then celebrate some queer love, with The Half of It, a lesbian teen romance from writer/director Alice Wu, which can only be described as “absolutely adorable.” Leah Lewis stars as a quiet high school senior named Ellie Chu, who agrees to help a simple jock named Paul write beautiful love letters to his crush. The only problem? Paul’s crush—a popular girl named Aster—is Ellie’s crush, too. Cue the gay longing!

  • To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before
    Photo: Netflix

It’s always a good time to treat yourself to a rewatch of one of the best romantic comedies in recent years, but a Valentine’s Day rewatch is an especially good excuse. Based on the novel by Jenny Han, To All the Boys combines the well-loved “fake dating” romance trope with a perfect cast. The result is a heart-warming, stomach-swooping love story that you’ll inhale in one sitting. And don’t forget to watch the sequels and the new spin-off series, XO Kitty, when you’re done.
