A fire which erupted in a retirement village on NSW‘s North Coast has claimed the life of a 73-year-old woman, who is yet to be formally identified.
The blaze broke out at the Palm Lakes Resort on Orion Drive, in Yamba, at about 9.15pm on Tuesday.
Fire and Rescue NSW were able to extinguish the blaze, which caused extensive damage to the building, while NSW Ambulance paramedics treated the resident, believed to be the 73-year-old, at the scene.

Despite the best efforts of first responders the woman died a short time later.
Coffs and Clarence Police District officers have established a crime scene at the retirement village and have commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the fire.
A report will be prepared for the coroner.
