A furious Queensland dad has spoken out after his teenage daughter was left needing hospital treatment after a vicious alleged assault on Sunday afternoon.

The girl was repeatedly punched in the head and forced to cower on the ground after she was kicked and stomped on in the alleged attack, leaving her with chipped teeth, a bloodied nose, cuts and bruises.

Sickeningly, the attack was filmed and later posted on social media along with shocking comments about the alleged victim.

The teenager was sitting on her own at a table in Toowoomba’s Grand Central Shopping Centre when she was allegedly set upon by three other teenage girls.

Her dad told 7News the group accused his daughter of ‘saying inappropriate things’ about a family member of the girls.

The ‘extremely angry’ father said he felt ‘sick to his stomach’ that somebody filmed the incident instead of helping his daughter.

‘If it was your child, you’d be wanting someone to help,’ he said. ‘I would have jumped in and at least got the girls off.’

Out of all the people who were there at the time, just one woman tried to stop the alleged attack before she was also allegedly assaulted by the group of girls.

Despite the severity of the alleged assault, the man said his daughter’s nose was ‘surprisingly not broken’.

His distraught daughter was in shock at what happened. ‘She was sitting there, just wondering why,’ the dad said.

He has called for stronger action against bullying and said: ‘Even adults can’t walk around without getting hassled by these kids.’

A Queensland Police spokesperson told Daily Mail Australia that a 19-year-old South Toowoomba woman has been charged over the alleged assault.

She will face Toowoomba Magistrates Court on May 8.

The investigation is continuing and the police have appealed for any witnesses to come forward.

Australia’s online safety push

Australia last year announced it would be spearheading an online safety push in collaboration with three other countries.

Australia’s eSafety Commission announced it would team with online regulators from the United Kingdom, Ireland and Fiji to create new laws combating abuse, harmful content and illegal material on social networks.

Representatives for the four countries announced their partnership at a conference in Washington DC in November, revealing the Global Online Safety Regulators Network would collaborate on an ‘international approach to online safety regulation’.

That followed Australia introducing a world-first adult cyber abuse scheme and Online Safety Act in January, and follows major cutbacks to online safety and moderation teams at Twitter and Facebook.

The collaboration received early praise from social media experts who said the fight against online abuse and cyber bullying needed ‘all the firepower’ it could get.

The group was to be made of Australia’s eSafety Commission, UK communications regulator Ofcom, the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland, and Fiji’s Online Safety Commission.
