Lori Vallow grinned from the defense table in the Boise, Idaho courthouse on Tuesday as her attorneys rested their case without calling a single witness.

The prosecution rested its case just a short time earlier after four weeks of harrowing testimony that revealed salacious texts with her cult leader husband and insight into their alleged deranged plan to kill her children.

‘We don’t believe the state has proved its case so the defense will rest,’ Jim Archibald said after a private meeting with Vallow.

The ‘Doomsday mom’ and Chad Daybell, 54, are accused of killing her two children JJ, 7, and Tylee, 16, in September 2019, and Daybell’s then-wife Tammy the same month. They married in Hawaii just two weeks later.

The state rested their case on Tuesday after presenting their final two witnesses at the crowded Boise, Idaho courthouse.

Nicholas Edwards, the lead investigator for the Idaho Attorney General’s Office, was the final witness to testify for the state. He said texts between Vallow and Daybell revealed that Tammy had two life insurance policies – both were paid out to Daybell.

Earlier on Tuesday, Judge Boyce ruled that the court will live stream the jury’s verdict when that time comes.

News cameras have been barred from recording and publicizing proceedings at the courthouse in order to ensure the cult mom receives a fair trial. She has pleaded not guilty. Chad Daybell’s trial will be held separately in June 2024.
