A little girl has had an incredible escape after being hit by a car and knocked over on quiet suburban street.

The driver’s dashboard camera captured the shocking moment he jammed on the brakes when the girl suddenly ran into the street – and also captured her father’s angry reaction.

The video, posted by Dash Cam Owners Aus, showed the driver going down a narrow suburban street, driving between cars parked on either side.

Nine seconds in, a little girl carrying a doll ran onto the street from the left-hand side and the driver slammed on the brakes.

But it was too late, and as the brakes screeched there was also a sickening thump as the little girl was hit, fell to the ground and rolled over a couple of times.

Incredibly, she seemed to escape serious injury as she immediately got up on her knees.

In a split second, her furious father ran onto the road and pounded his fist on the car’s bonnet and shouted at the driver before going to pick up his daughter.

As he picked up his screaming daughter, the dad shouted ‘What did you do?’ at the driver.

With the sound of his door opening, the driver asked: ‘She’s alright? She’s alright?’

Commenters were mixed in their opinion of whether the driver was the hero or the villain of what happened.

One said he was ‘Always suss of webcam vids that don’t include details like speed. That guy was doing closer to 60 than 40.

‘Just luck the kid is still alive, that hit would be enough to kill anyone.’

But the video poster replied to this saying ‘If you think that’s 60kph you need your head checked.’

Others praised what they said was the driver’s quick thinking.

‘The drivers reflexes were spot on, good job,’ wrote one.

‘His reflexes save that poor girl,’ said another, who also asked why the father hit the car.

Another poster agreed with him, writing ‘he’s upset with the driver???? bad dad.’

One commenter spoke for many by saying: ‘Amazing reaction, this result would be far worse for most drivers.

‘Understand the dad is frustrated but he should be a LOT more thankful to the driver stopping so quickly.’

Another poster tried to see both sides of the argument, writing ‘To add some balance to these comments, can we focus less on the dad who foolishly went to the car… and instead on the fact that this guy was clearly driving way too fast for a narrow street like that.

‘His fast reaction time prevented further damage from his poor driving,’ they said.
