A driver had a miraculous escape after a railway fence smashed through the windscreen when he crashed into it – with its steel railings narrowly missing his head.
The man – believed to be aged in his 70s – was driving down Treacy Street at Hurstville in Sydney‘s south at about 9am on Friday morning when he smashed into the fence, police said.
The motorist was freed by NSW Fire and Rescue crews after being trapped in the grey Ford Falcon for more than 15 minutes.
Shocking images showed the car straddled over a pedestrian pathway and impaled by the fence railings from the front windscreen through to the back.
The caved-in front windscreen had multiple railing parts and mangled fence wiring sticking out – showing it had passed through close to the driver’s side.
