Her final text contained just a single word, but it haunts Jean Hanlon's (pictured) family to this day. 'Help', the message read.

A creepy human skeleton at the heart of a ongoing neighbourhood dispute is terrifying children, a Sydney mother has complained.

The woman and her family have been unable to convince their next-door neighbour to remove a plastic skeleton hanging from their garage.

She says the Halloween-style prop faces directly into her backyard and is scaring her children – however her neighbours have refused to take it down.

The fed-up mother took to Facebook this week to ask how she could resolve the problem after police told her there was nothing they could do.

‘My neighbour has put a human skeleton on his garage closer to (our) fence. It’s an old building, so it is not 900mm away from the boundary,’ she wrote.

‘Only we can see the skeleton as it directly facing our backyard, and it is scary for our children.’

The fed-up mother explained that her fence was already the maximum height for a fence in NSW and that bamboo would take a year to grow.

The fierce dispute recently took a turn when the same neighbour installed a security camera also pointing directly into the woman’s backyard.

‘Neighbours have said they aren’t going to remove it and, in addition to that, have put a security camera next to the skeleton – after we asked them to take the skeleton down,’ the woman continued.

‘Police came out, and they can’t do anything as it’s his property, and he can hang anything he wants.

‘He put on the security camera the day after the police came. So, I’ll probably have a chat with the police again about that.’

Social media users agreed the skeleton’s presence was unsettling.

‘Oh wow, how insensitive to your children,’ one commented.

‘This is disgusting; I don’t like your neighbours,’ a second wrote.

A third user encouraged the woman to recast the skeleton as a friend of her children by giving him a name and greeting him each morning.
