Terrifying footage has captured the moment a drink-driver slammed into the back of a family’s car, leaving them with injuries and trauma.
The incident was captured on Marldon Road in Paignton, Devon and taken from a dashboard camera.
In the video, children are seen sitting in the back of a car while another vehicle, a white Kia, appears in the rearview window.
The Kia then swerves into the back of the car, after narrowly avoiding a red mini parked in the opposite lane, causing the passengers to scream in abject terror.
It appears that the white car was trying to perform an overtaking manoeuvre.

He said: ‘We were just travelling down the road at 23mph then a guy decided that he was going to speed up and hit the back of us
‘I think he was going to overtake the red mini but he ran out of road.’
‘There is no day when a driver like that should be on the road.’
Neil got out of the car to get details and assess the damage when he noticed the other driver’s eyes were dilated.
‘I’m a lorry driver so I’m pretty good about the road,’ Neil continued, ‘but my wife was completely traumatised by it and the two girls in the back had lower back injuries.’
Neil said the driver went to court and received a 22-month driving suspension.
Adding: ’22 months don’t seem like a lot to me. I would expect it to be a bit longer.’
Bryn Brooker, Head of Road Safety at Nextbase, said: ‘This reckless driver put himself and everyone else on the road at risk by getting behind the wheel.

The drunk-driver, Mark Foy, 37, was sentenced at Newton Abbot Magistrates on June 20
‘It’s a wonder no one was more seriously injured.
‘The rules are simple here: If you’re drinking or doing anything else to alter your brain, don’t drive.
‘Even a small errand could end in tragedy.
‘It also proves just how useful a dash cam is.
‘You never know when you might be involved in an incident through absolutely no fault of your own.
‘A dash cam will let you prove to both the police and insurers that the other party was completely in the wrong – saving you thousands in legal fees and insurance costs.’
The drunk-driver, Mark Foy, 37, was sentenced at Newton Abbot Magistrates on June 20.
He received a 22-month driving disqualification reduced by 22 weeks if he completed an approved course, paid a fine of £120, prosecution costs of £85 and a victim surcharge of £48.
