Q: At 60, my lips are fast losing volume and definition. I really do not want lip injections. Is there an alternative that could make my lips youthful again?
A: I never thought I’d say this, but ‘lip blushing’, a semi-permanent make-up (SPMU) technique which is basically a form of tattooing (albeit less deep), can be a great way to restore your lips.
After applying numbing cream, a tiny mechanised needle (yes, a needle, but it only punctures the top skin layer) deposits bespoke pigments just under the skin’s surface to restore lips’ youthful colour and defined lip line.
Because a ‘shading’ technique with a 3D-effect is used, lips also end up looking optically plumper and more youthful.

I’ve seen some spectacular results, but they depend on the talent of your SPMU technician; please do careful research and select a therapist with many years of experience.
I rate London’s Nez Hasan clinic (nezhasan.com); Karen Betts’ nationwide clinics (karenbetts.com) are also well-respected.
You’ll need one initial 2-3 hour treatment and one follow-up six weeks later, which will leave your lips swollen, scabbing and red for ten days as they settle.
Expect to pay from £600 for the two sessions, with results lasting 12-18 months.
