First Judicial District Attorney Mary Carmack-Altwies announced today that she would be replaced by two special prosecutors. Actor Alec Baldwin, right, has vowed to fight the charges

‘Kari Morrissey and Jason Lewis will unflinchingly pursue justice in the death of Halyna Hutchins on behalf of the people of First Judicial District,’ she said in a statement.

After a year of reviewing case files, Altwies made the controversial decision to charge Baldwin with manslaughter and a firearm enhancement earlier this year.

She was previously criticized for charging Baldwin with a crime that didn’t exist in law at the time of the shooting.

The charge was a firearm enhancement that would have put Baldwin in prison for up to five years if he’d been convicted.

It wasn’t introduced to law until May 2022 – six months after Baldwin accidentally shot and killed Hutchins on the movie set.

Her stepping down comes after Special Prosecutor Andrea Reeb resigned from the case.

Baldwin’s team asked for Reeb to be disqualified after it emerged she’d written in emails about how the case could help her career.
