Queensland drivers may soon have to pass an online driving test when they go to renew their licence.
The state’s Transport and Main Roads Minister Mark Bailey has put forward a slew of changes to make roads safer, following the deaths of 299 people last year.
One suggestion is to make those renewing their licence re-sit an online road test around every five years.
The test would be similar to the one those applying for their learner’s licence have to complete, and licenced drivers can keep trying until they pass.

‘It’s really about education, it’s not about whether we take your licence off you or not,’ Mr Bailey said.
‘Looking at a five-year period, there’s always a lot of different changes that come into play.
‘You add that up over time and it can be very easy to get out of touch with what the latest road rules are.’
The state government is also looking at imposing a law that would see those who speed 40km/h over the limit have their licence suspended on the spot.
Drivers caught committing high-risk speeding often have 21 days before the suspension comes into effect.
‘As far as I’m concerned you’re (high-risk speeders) just as dangerous as a drunk driver,’ Mr Bailey said.
‘You should have your keys taken off you immediately.’
