A driver has allegedly gone on a highway rampage, accused of swerving wildly into other vehicles before allegedly trying to flee police on foot across the busy freeway.
The 40-year-old man was caught on dashcam footage allegedly driving erratically in a 4WD on the Hume Highway near Wangaratta in Victoria’s north-east on Thursday.
The vision showed the car pulling a trailer while allegedly veering and colliding with passing vehicles, as witnesses including motorist Camilla Linhart watched on in horror.
The Queensland man is accused of failing to stop after various crashes in Wangaratta before he drove onto the highway.
He is also accused of driving on the wrong side of the road and running several red lights causing a series of alleged near misses.

Video shows the 4WD apparently almost running into a blue Hyundai i30 before he allegedly sideswiped a large white campervan on the freeway – prompting nearby motorists to take evasive action and alert other drivers.

Vehicles were allegedly forced to swerve to escape damage including a B-double truck that came to a complete stop to avoid the danger.
The vehicle allegedly took a sudden U-turn on the freeway before a police car was seen hurtling down the median strip in pursuit.
The alleged driver was then seen walking away from the 4WD after abandoning it by the side of the highway.

Dramatic footage showed him then allegedly dashing across the busy freeway with police in hot pursuit before he was tackled to the ground.
A Bundaberg man was scheduled to appear before Wangaratta Magistrates’ Court on Friday, charged with 20 offences including reckless conduct endangering life, possessing drugs and having an imitation firearm.
