The 26-year-old police officer was taken to Liverpool Hospital with minor injuries but the courier driver escaped uninjured

A courier driver has been t-boned by a cop car that flew through an intersection without the vehicle’s emergency lights or sirens turned on.

The 26-year-old police officer was ‘on the way to a job’ in Mount Pritchard in Sydney’s south-west, when his BMW Highway Patrol car collided with another vehicle about 3pm on Thursday.

In footage captured by a nearby home security camera, the courier driver’s silver Honda Jazz is seen driving down the street towards a four-way intersection.

From the side street, the patrol car – with no lights or sirens activated – flies through the stop sign without slowing down.

The two cars collide with a loud bang as the rear driver’s side of the Honda Jazz is crumpled in.

The hatchback then spins out of control before slamming into a curb and coming to a crunching stop.

The cop car brakes suddenly on impact and only as the vehicle comes to a stop are the emergency lights are turned on.

Luckily, the courier avoided any injuries after barely escaping the full brunt of the collision.

The police officer was transported to Liverpool Hospital with a sore arm but has since been released.

‘We were just inside out the back there, having a bit of lunch with a mate and then we heard this bang’, a neighbour told 9News.

An investigation has been launched by Fairfield Command into the circumstances of the crash.
