Pardoned child killer Kathleen Folbigg has tasted freedom for the first time in 20 years.

Folbigg walked outside ‘in the sunshine’ after being released from Grafton Correctional Centre about 11.15am on Monday.

She was embraced by loved ones and is expected to spend her first night as a free woman with longtime friend and supporter, Tracey Chapman.

Folbigg was released from jail after being granted a pardon by NSW Attorney General Michael Daley.

The mother of four has been locked up for killing her children for 20 years, after being convicted in 2003.

‘There is reasonable doubt for the guilt of Ms Folbigg for each of those offences,’ Mr Daley said, after announcing her pardon.

This now opens the possibility for Ms Folbigg to apply for compensation now that she has been released from the Grafton prison where she was being held.

Greens MP Sue Higginson confirmed Ms Folbigg had been freed from prison and that ‘she’s walking, she’s outside, she’s in the sunshine’.

‘This is our second Lindy Chamberlain case in Australia,’ Higginson said.
