A woman in a remote Northern Territory town was allegedly stabbed to death by a man known to her.

Police were called to a home in Jilkminggan, about 146km southeast of Katherine in the state’s north, at about 11.20pm on Thursday.

Emergency services found the 45-year-old woman with a knife wound to her back and commenced CPR.

However, she died a short time later. 

‘Paramedics attempted to revive her but unfortunately she was declared deceased at 12.35am,’ Northern Watch Commander Greg Lamb said, Northern Territory News reports.

‘A 46-year-old man has been taken into custody and is assisting police with inquiries into the matter.’
