A kitten has been rescued by police after being stuck under the bonnet of a car that travelled 140km over a two hour period

A lucky kitten has miraculously survived a two-hour car trip stuck in the engine bay.

The motorist, who travelled in their BMW hatchback from Lithgow in the Central Tablelands to Sydney, began hearing strange cries inside their car and pulled over on Roslyn Gardens street in Kings Cross about 9pm on Saturday.

The driver opened the bonnet and was shocked to discover a small grey kitten.

It’s understood the kitten became trapped before the driver had left for the 140km trip.

NSW Police and NSW RSPCA inspectors were called to the street and began working on freeing the kitten.

One officer stood by at the front of the vehicle while two police rescue officers worked from underneath.

The trio used flashlights and a camera to assist them in locating the kitten before removing the frightened animal.

A police spokesperson said: ‘Police used airbags to lift the car and an inspection camera to locate it within the vehicle.’

A small number of people gathered to watch the rescue operation, with onlookers helping police coax the kitten out of the car.
