A man from Orange County has been arrested after he crashed his car into a house in Lake Forest, California and then proceeded to chase residents with a pickaxe.

Security cameras show a Kia sedan being driven at speed down the otherwise quiet suburban Peacock Street before midday on Monday.

A large crash can be heard, as the suspect, who police are yet to name, careers the vehicle into the 24300 block of Peacock Street.

Pictures of the chaotic scene show the car mounted on a garden wall with its bonnet smashed against the front porch of the property, debris is scattered in the front yard.

He then runs to his rented home in the nearby 22100 block on Pheasant Street where he attempts to ram the door open with his shoulder.

Once inside the property the man chased his landlord, Eric Li, into the backyard where he acquired a pickaxe which he then wielded at Mr Li.

‘He’s scared. He needs to enter the house as soon as possible, but he entered the wrong passcode, Li told KTLA.

‘You cannot open the door. He tried to use his body to break in.’

‘He chased me again. So, I crossed the street and asked the [neighbor] for help,’ Li explained.

One of the man’s other roommates, who did not wish to be named, told KTLA that the suspect then chased after a gardener in a neighbor’s yard before returning to the house and attempting to get into their room with the axe.

Video footage shows the man hacking at the roommate’s door, as he is heard screaming inside.

‘He kept hitting it harder and harder. I noticed that he was starting to get tired, so I tried to look for a good point in time where he might want to take a little break from swinging the axe for a second and when he did that, I swung the door open and kind of disarmed him,’ the roommate said.

Deputies soon arrived at the scene, arrested the man and no injuries were recorded.
