A poll for MailOnline has found support for Charles inviting the Sussexes to the ceremony on May 6, with 47 per cent in favour and 36 per cent opposed

Brits do want Prince Harry to come to the King’s coronation – but would prefer Meghan and Prince Andrew stayed away.

A poll for MailOnline has found support for Charles inviting the Sussexes to the ceremony on May 6, with 47 per cent in favour and 36 per cent opposed.

The Redfield & Wilton Strategies survey suggested people would like to see Harry at the event, although the margin was only 38 per cent to 36 per cent.

However, the picture was less positive for his wife, with 43 per cent saying she should give it a miss against 33 per cent backing her attendance.

For Andrew, just 26 per cent endorsed him being there, with 41 per cent against – including 26 per cent who felt strongly on the issue.

The King and Queen Consort will be crowned on May 6 and a weekend of celebrations is being organised alongside the Westminster Abbey ceremony, including a concert at Windsor Castle on May 7.

The Sussexes are said to be ‘weighing up’ whether or not to fly over.

Tensions have been running high after the publication of Harry’s memoir Spare, and a slew of TV interviews that he gave to publicise it.

Friends of the couple believe they will not make final decision until a formal invitation arrives at their home in California.

The Redfield poll found 33 per cent supported Meghan attending, 17 per cent strongly. A fifth were neutral, while 24 per cent were opposed and another 19 per cent were strongly opposed.

Just 10 per cent strongly supported Andrew coming to the coronation, while a further 16 per cent were broadly in favour. Some 28 per cent were neutral, and 43 per cent were against the idea.

Andrew stepped away from royal duties in 2019 amid a storm over his links to paedophile financier Jeffrey Epstein.

The 62-year-old paid a rumoured £10million settlement to Virginia Giuffre, who accused him of sex abuse, in a civil case last year but denies wrongdoing and has never accepted liability.

He is considered unlikely to take on a formal role at his brother’s coronation.

Redfield & Wilton Strategies interviewed 1,500 GB voters online on February 23. The results were weighted to represent the wider population.
