Serwaa Amihere, Ghanaian broadcaster for GhOne TV and Starr Fm has condemned basic school teachers who record children struggling with the English language and has also pleaded with Ghana Education Service to stop teachers from that act.
The broadcaster said this because recently, there are a couple of videos that circulated and it contained either two students explaining why they fought in class or over a book or a student complaining to a teacher, and in Serwaa and many other Ghanaians view it as really disturbing because it actually looks like the teachers are trying to mock the students who can’t speak fluently in English.
The act of recording students who cannot speak fluently with English teachers is now becoming a new normal in government schools and in every week or two such videos pop up on the internet in Ghana and these teachers mostly do this for likes and engagements according to Serwaa.

Just recently, there was a video like that trending on Twitter it contained a boy and girl who were quarreling over an eraser. The girl was loud and the boy wanted to explain to the tutor calmly but most people on the internet mocked the boy that he can’t speak English fluently just because he was now shouting like the girl.
This is how she showed her displeasure in this mockery act “Recently, there is a practice where some teachers in schools in Ghana, record an interaction between their pupils and put it on social media for likes and engagements..If such videos were highlighting the challenges these school children go through to access education and seek help for them, I wouldn’t have a problem However, these videos make mockery of these kids who either struggle to express themselves in English or other areas ..I entreat the Ministry of Education and GES to end this practice by some teachers because it is not right and can destroy the confidence of the kids The digital footprints such videos will leave will go a long way to hurt some of these kids and we need to come together with a common voice to end this Let us protect our kids”
