Two crew members killed in Black Hawk Helicopter crash

A video is going around on social media showing the tragedy that went down in Alabama. Moreover, it features a Black Hawk Helicopter falling out of the sky and landing near a freeway.

Alabama Black Hawk Helicopter crash caught on camera

The Tennessee National Guard reported that a combat helicopter crashed in Alabama on Wednesday. 

They further revealed that the accident ended up taking the lives of two crew members during a flight-training mission. 

In addition, Brig. Gen. Warner Ross, Tennessee’s Adjutant General, released a statement to address the incident.

He said, ‘We are deeply saddened by the loss of two Tennessee National Guardsmen, and our prayers are with their families during this heartbreaking tragedy.’

Additionally, he added, ‘We ask Tennesseans to join us in supporting their families during this time of unthinkable grief.’

Ross further mentioned that the helicopter collapsed around 3 pm local time and immediately caught fire. 

Meanwhile, the Madison County sheriff’s office confirmed that no one sustained injuries on the ground at the time of the crash.

Brent Patterson, sheriff’s Investigator, admitted, ‘We have no survivors. We have a crime scene here. We have it taped off.’

According to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, the UH-60 helicopter, popularly known as a Black Hawk, slammed into Harvest’s unincorporated community.

Furthermore, the crash occurred along Alabama Highway 53. It passes through Huntsville’s northwest commercial areas. 

Additionally, the sheriff’s office stated that heavy traffic delays are expected to last through Thursday due to the helicopter crash.

Besides that, Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee also talked about the incident on Wednesday.

He said, ‘Maria and I are deeply saddened by the tragic loss of two Tennessee National Guard members.’

Lee continued, ‘Please join us in lifting their families up in prayer and support during this time of unspeakable grief.’

Other instances of Black Hawk helicopter crashes

A handful of Black Hawk helicopters have crashed during training exercises over the years.

For instance, a Black Hawk helicopter pilot lost sight when he was trying to land due to whiteout conditions in Utah in 2022. He ended up colliding with another helicopter near a Utah ski resort. 

However, no one aboard nor the skiers at the resort were injured during the crash. 

Besides that, three Idaho Army National Guard pilots were killed when their Black Hawk helicopter struck near Boise in 2021.

In addition, two soldiers died while three suffered from injuries when their Black Hawk helicopter exploded on Southern California’s coast in 2020.
