Controversial social commentator Martin Otse-Vincent, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), has responded sharply to comments made by his lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, regarding his online activism.
Adeyanju had taken to X (formerly Twitter) to express concern over VDM’s repeated involvement in high-risk social media confrontations. In his post, the legal practitioner advised the activist to tread more cautiously for the sake of his safety.
“I constantly urge VDM to avoid taking unnecessary risks, but he rarely listens. If anything happens to him, life will go on for everyone else. We tend to overestimate our relevance Nigerians don’t place much value on individuals,” Adeyanju tweeted.
Although some interpreted Adeyanju’s words as heartfelt and drawn from personal experience, VDM saw the statement as a betrayal. In a video uploaded to his Instagram page, the outspoken media figure who recently launched the headquarters of his non-profit organization voiced his disappointment. He made it clear that he expected support, not discouragement, especially from someone in his legal corner.
“I am really disappointed by this tweet from my lawyer about me. If it was someone else I wouldn’t mind. I would say they don’t know better. But for Deji Adeyanju.”
