Salah missing again as Brighton sink Liverpool in 3-2 thriller

Liverpool’s post-title slump continued as they fell to a 3-2 defeat at Brighton on Monday night, extending their winless run to three matches.

Despite taking the lead twice, the Reds were undone by an energetic Seagulls side and a muted performance from Mohamed Salah, who again failed to deliver.

Harvey Elliott opened the scoring early, converting from close range after Conor Bradley sliced through Brighton’s defence.

But Liverpool’s early dominance was short-lived. Yasin Ayari levelled for Brighton after a tidy through-ball from Brajan Gruda.

Dominik Szoboszlai restored Liverpool’s lead with a stunning free-kick routine just before half-time.

But that momentum was squandered in the second half as Salah missed a golden chance to put the game beyond reach, dragging wide after a perfect cutback from Cody Gakpo.

Kaoru Mitoma came off the bench to equalise in the 69th minute, smashing home after Danny Welbeck’s initial effort was blocked.

Then in the 85th, Jack Hinshelwood completed the comeback, firing in from close range following Matt O’Riley’s low cross.
