Sabrina Carpenter Sparks Online Frenzy With Response To Catholic Church

Fans are fawning over Sabrina Carpenter after she shrugged off the controversy surrounding her “Feather” music video.

The footage faced criticism after its release last month, with a Catholic bishop condemning its filming inside and outside a church located in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Now, Carpenter has affirmed that she shot the video with the church’s consent while making a cheeky reference to her name.

Sabrina Carpenter’s Response To The Catholic Community Has Fans Respecting Her More

For fans who have yet to watch the “Feather” music video, which has earned over 12 million views since its debut, the horror-inspired project includes scenes of Carpenter dancing around the pews and altar of a 19th-century Catholic Church in a black tulle dress and veil.

The former Disney Channel star is also depicted killing and witnessing the deaths of men who acted inappropriately toward her — whether it was through taking a non-consensual snapshot up her skirt, catcalling, or mansplaining.

Two days after the release of the “Feather” video, the Diocese of Brooklyn expressed in a statement by Bishop Robert Brennan that the church “is appalled at what was filmed at Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church in Brooklyn.” The statement further conveyed:

“The parish did not follow diocesan policy regarding the filming on Church property, which includes a review of the scenes and script.”

Catholic priest Monsignor Gigantiellox was then reportedly “relieved” of his administrative duties for permitting the video’s location to be used earlier this week. Amid the unfolding drama, Carpenter, in a new interview with Variety, confirmed that she obtained permission to film in the church and playfully addressed the criticism.

“We got approval in advance,” mentioned the “On My Way” performer, before humorously adding, “and Jesus was a carpenter.”

Once the publication hit the news, many people started showing their appreciation for the “Nonsense” singer, with one person wondering via X, “Why didn’t anyone tell me Sabrina carpenter slaps.”

“The Sabrina Carpenter video is not even the 1000th worst thing that’s ever happened in a Catholic Church,” a second X user pointed out, as a third applauded, “The clever response, mixing humor and fact, proves she knows how to handle the noise. Well played, Sabrina🔥.”

Similarly, a fourth fan declared, “you could never make me hate sabrina carpenter,” a fifth claimed, “sabrina carpenter saying Jesus was a carpenter is one of the hardest quotes in history,” and a sixth noted, “Sabrina Carpenter has a forever fan in me for this reply.”

A seventh commenter also explained, “Not gonna lie, i actively started listening to her bcz she opened for Taylor’s tour but now i’m obsessed with her! regret not being a fan sooner coz she’s just amazing!😍.”

Sabrina Carpenter Has People Scrambling With Message Of Latest Song

The commendation comes less than 24 hours after Carpenter’s new song “cindy lou who” prompted an avid listener to speculate about the possible subjects. Taking to TikTok to dissect the track that talks about an ex’s new partner, the fan uploaded a video indicating that Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello inspired it.

In the first verse where Carpenter crooned, “Maybe he met you somewhere in the desert / While he was soul-searchin’, he found someone better,” the TikToker slapped on multiple images of Cabello and Mendes.

Going by the photos, the social media user believes that the lines were referring to Cabello and Mendes’ reunion at this year’s Coachella Music Festival, which was held in April.

Next, the TikToker paired the lyrics, “With your hair so long, lips so red,” with photos of Cabello wearing long brunette locks and attention-grabbing red lipstick. They then added a throwback snap of Cabello and Carpenter posing together at an event, incorporating the song’s lyric, “Maybe we met once / I forget.”

A look at the comment section disclosed that many viewers agreed with the theory, with one writing, “No, no, this is very rational,” another stating, “No this is insane u r so right,” and a third describing it as “Genius, even.”

ICYMI, Mendes, and Cabello, previously a couple from 2019 to 2021, seemed to reconnect at the aforementioned music festival in Indio, California.

Notably, just a few months before that, Carpenter and Mendes sparked dating rumors after they were spotted together in West Hollywood, California, and then again at Miley Cyrus’ album release party. However, Mendes quickly clarified to onlookers that he and the “Looking at Me” singer were “not dating.”
