Model Paulina Porizkova, 58, Shares Untouched Vogue Magazine Covers: ‘What Sells Is What YOU Buy’
On Friday, the “Anna” actress took to Instagram to repost a sampling of her Vogue magazine covers throughout the years put together by her friend Emanuel Chilo. In the caption, she revealed that the last two photos were taken when she was over the age of 55, but felt that she looked younger in the photos.
Although she made it clear that the last two photos were not retouched, she admitted that ” both were shot with the most flattering light by very skilled photographers, after a long process of professional makeup and hair and clothing. And the picture chosen for the cover- which a model has no say about- was the one where I looked my best- and not incidentally, the youngest.”
She went on to praise this month’s Vogue magazine cover, which “features four famous beauties over fifty.” Paulina said, “They look amazing,” adding, “But they also don’t look over forty, whether it’s incredible genetics, amazing photography, cosmetic help, or retouching.”
Paulina Warns ‘Representation Hinges On What Sells’

“Covers of magazines are designed to attract your attention. They are selling you fashions and cosmetics to help to either express yourself or hide yourself. On the sunny side, they are designed to inspire, allow you to dream, and entertain you,” she wrote. “On the dark side, they are designed to produce shame by negative comparisons and make you buy things to cover that shame.”

“But it is YOU who shells out the money. If you buy- you will keep getting offered similar wares. Ultimately, representation hinges on what sells. What sells is what YOU buy,” she concluded along with the hashtags “Between JLo and Betty White,” “Vogue,” “Women Over 50,” “Older Is Bolder” and “Representation.”
Fans were quick to say that Paulina looked “beautiful” and “stunning” in all of the photographs. “Paulina whatever you’re selling, I’m buying! And ‘buy’ that I mean… ( see what I did there?!?) your balanced nuances about beauty, always the light, the dark, and the beautiful in-between. Thank you!” one fan commented, to which Paulina reacted with a prayers hands emoji.
Paulina Appeared In Vogue Scandinavia’s February-March Issue
On January 31, Paulina posed on the cover of Vogue Scandinavia in a sheer pink dress and black gloves. “I feel like I’m representing 50-something-year-old women who look their age. And I deeply feel that we need more representation,” she told the magazine at the time. In the caption, the magazine wrote:
“Swedish-Czech supermodel Paulina Porizkova bares it all as the cover star of our Feb-Mar issue, proving that beauty truly has no age limit. Tackling the complex experience of growing older in the fashion industry, overcoming gut-wrenching grief, and navigating mid-life dating, Paulina finds that – as she ages – she is only more intelligent, more patient, more introspective. This is Paulina at the height of her powers.”
Not everyone was a fan of her photo shoot, however. “This picture is so unflattering to Paulina. She is a beautiful strong passionate lady! The pose, clothing, and lighting are an injustice to who she is and what she represents!” one fan exclaimed but Paulina replied, “I like it.” The fan replied, “Then that is what is most important!”
“I am 56 years old. I understand you want to prove a point… but there are other things than looks… I feel that you want to justify your decisions … we don’t have to. Let’s just be! And finding gratification in our accomplishments. I don’t spend my time justifying my age… I don’t need to,” another follower wrote, to which Paulina kindly reminded them, “This is Instagram, a platform for photographs and I am a model.”
