Neal Katyal Wikipedia, Biography, Wife, Age:- Neal Katyal is a corporate lawyer and scientist from the United States. He is a partner at Hogan Lovells and also the Paul and Patricia Saunders Professor of National Security Law at Georgetown University Law Center. Neal was born in Chicago, Illinois to parents who originally came from India and immigrated to the US. He attended Loyola Academy High School in Wilmette, Illinois before enrolling at Dartmouth College, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in government and Indian history in 1991. He then enrolled at Yale Law School, where he was mentored by American legal academics Akhil Amar and Bruce Ackerman.

In 1995 and 1996, he collaborated with them on publishing legal reviews and periodicals with a political opinion. He was also the editorial director of the Yale Law Journal. In law school, he completed summer internships in Vice President Al Gore’s office and the Attorney General’s office. During his third internship, he worked at the leading Washington law firm Hogan & Hartson.

Career

President Bill Clinton asked him to submit a report on the need for more pro bono legal work. In 1999, he drafted special legislation that impacted Mueller’s investigation into the Russian government’s efforts to interfere in the 2016 presidential election. He was also co-counsel to Vice President Al Gore in Bush v. Gore and represented the deans of most major private law schools in Grutter v. Bollinger . In 2017, Katyal was chosen as American Lawyer Magazine’s top Litigator of the Year award for 2016 and 2017. Katyal has come under fire for writing anti-union briefs in two Supreme Court cases, Janus v. AFSCME and Epic Systems Corp. v. Lewis. Hogan Lovells, Katyal’s employer, described Katyal’s success in these cases as “a major win for the firm”.

In 2020, Katyal defended Nestlé and Cargill at the Supreme Court in Nestlé USA, Inc. v. Doe, a class action brought by formerly enslaved children kidnapped and forced to work on cocoa plantations in the Ivory Coast. In 2021, Katyal assisted financial behemoth Citigroup in its effort to recover a $900 million erroneous transfer to creditors of Revlon Inc. Katyal also assisted the prosecution team in State v. Chauvin. Katyal argued for respondents in Moore v. Harper, a case involving suffrage, redistricting, and the independent state legislative doctrine, before the Supreme Court in 2022. The court rejected the autonomous legislature thesis by a 6–3 majority, thus affirming Katyal’s positions. In 2022, Katyal defended Johnson & Johnson in a civil suit in which the company was accused of distributing carcinogenic baby powder. His hourly rate was $2465 for this project.
