Dexter Scott King, the youngest son of legendary civil rights activist Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and his wife, Coretta Scott King, has reportedly passed away.
His family announced his death through the King Center, along with a touching tribute to his memory.
Dexter Scott King’s Cause Of Death
In a sad turn of events, the youngest son of Martin Luther and Coretta Scott King has died at the age of 62. His death was revealed by the King Center, who noted that Dexter passed away after a “valiant battle with prostate cancer.”
His wife of 11 years, Leah Weber King, said in a statement, “He transitioned peacefully in his sleep at home with me in Malibu. He gave it everything and battled this terrible disease until the end. As with all the challenges in his life, he faced this hurdle with bravery and might.”
Other members of his family have since spoken about his death, with his siblings speaking about how saddened they are at the loss of their brother.

Dexter’s sister, Rev. Dr. Bernice King, said, “Words cannot express the heartbreak I feel from losing another sibling. I’m praying for strength to get through this very difficult time.”
Following Bernice was her brother, Martin Luther King III, who spoke about how heartbreaking the loss of Dexter was to the family, adding, “The sudden shock is devastating. It is hard to have the right words at a moment like this. We ask for your prayers at this time for the entire King family.”
Dexter led a great life and was known for his uncanny resemblance to his iconic father. The actor notably portrayed his dad in the 2002 television movie “The Rosa Parks Story.”
