Kylian Mbappe scored twice as Real Madrid secure a 2-1 win over Villarreal at La Cerámica, temporarily reclaiming the top spot in La Liga.

Real Madrid fell behind early when Juan Foyth converted from close range following an Alex Baena corner in the eighth minute.

However, Mbappe equalized soon after and completed the turnaround before halftime, curling a Lucas Vazquez cutback into the net.

Villarreal pressed for an equalizer in the second half, with Thierno Barry missing a key opportunity from a Baena cross.

Despite sustained pressure, Madrid held on, aided by second-half substitutions including Vinicius Junior, Anthony Rüdiger, Luka Modric, and Arda Güler.

Carlo Ancelotti’s side now sit atop La Liga, pending the outcome of Sunday’s match between Atletico Madrid and Barcelona.
