Singer Crown Uzama, widely recognized by his stage name Shallipopi, has disclosed the challenges he encountered prior to achieving fame.

The artist behind the hit song ‘Oscroh’ shared that he endured considerable financial hardships, which compelled him to undertake various odd jobs to provide for himself and his family.

Shallipopi reminisced about his experiences performing at clubs in Benin for as little as N5,000 to assist his mother with household expenses. He also mentioned his work as a bricklayer, painter, and plasterer in his efforts to sustain himself.

He wrote on X: “I have been to the 36 states of Nigeria touring towns to eat, I nor know which part of Nigeria you come from, but u nor suppose dey talk to me about shame, buckle up this country nor dey laugh with anybody! Period!!!

“I don do bricklayer, painter, we don work for workshop, I don do POP, I don do plastering work, I don dey run commont house for night go club jokers for Benin go dey freestyle just to carry 5k reach house come give my mummy.”

The artist candidly discussed his previous challenges following criticism for asserting that financial stability is a crucial aspect of masculinity.
