Career of Desiree Ellis
Ellis subsequently joined Spurs Ladies and went on to work as a spice mixer in a butcher’s shop in Lansdowne (Athlone Celtic was the first team she played for).
She once took a weekend trip out of town with the club and told her employers she would be back for work on time, but the car the group was traveling in broke down on the way home, so she couldn’t make it in time. Ellis was subsequently fired.
Ellis worked in administration during her playing career. From 1994 to 1995, she served as vice-president of the Western Province Women’s Football Association.
Between 1996 and 1997, she served as the organization’s PRO. In 2001, she held the position of chief librarian at the Touchline photo agency.
