The organisers of the 2025 Summerjam Festival have stirred controversy after removing Nigerian Afrobeats icon Davido from the list of headlining performers and replacing him with his longtime rival, Burna Boy.
The update, shared on the festival’s official Instagram account on Wednesday, June 25, immediately ignited a heated exchange between Davido’s 30BG fanbase and Burna Boy’s supporters, known as the Outsiders.
In the post, the organisers stated:
“We are truly heartbroken to announce that Davido will no longer be performing at Summerjam 2025 due to logistical challenges… BUT we’ve come up with a master plan the return of The African Giant [Burna Boy]!”
Referring to Burna Boy’s inclusion as a “master plan” didn’t go down well with many Davido fans, who interpreted the language as a subtle jab at their fave.
It’s worth noting that Davido recently pulled out of another major event a London Stadium concert featuring rapper 50 Cent adding to the frustration among his followers.
