Ancelotti eyes Casemiro return as he prepares to take charge of Brazil

Incoming Brazil head coach Carlo Ancelotti is planning to recall Manchester United midfielder Casemiro to the national team when he officially assumes the role on May 26.

Recall the Brazilian Football Confederation confirmed Ancelotti’s appointment following the dismissal of Dorival Junior after a 4-1 loss to Argentina in March.

The Real Madrid manager will leave his post at the Bernabeu a year early, paving the way for a new chapter with the Seleção.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Ancelotti has already made “initial plans” that include reinstating Casemiro, who was dropped from Brazil’s 2024 Copa America squad due to a dip in form.

Casemiro, 33, last featured for Brazil in October 2023 and was previously named captain in March that year.

His relationship with Ancelotti, cultivated during their successful spell at Real Madrid, remains strong, and the Italian sees him as a critical figure in injecting leadership and experience into a relatively young Brazilian squad.

“Ancelotti values players who can lead on and off the pitch,” a source close to the situation told Oma Sports. “Casemiro fits that profile perfectly.”

Despite a turbulent season at Old Trafford, the midfielder has shown signs of top form.
