The third day of the Redeemed Christian Church of God’s (RCCG) 73rd Annual Convention reverberated with a powerful call to personal transformation as the church’s General Overseer, Pastor E.A. Adeboye, delivered a stirring sermon titled “Overcome Yourself.”
Addressing a vast congregation at the Redemption Camp on Wednesday, Pastor Adeboye drew from Proverbs 16:32 to stress that the greatest victory any believer can achieve is victory over self.
“He that ruleth his spirit is greater than he that taketh a city,” he quoted, as he urged Christians to identify and conquer their weaknesses.
In his message, Pastor Adeboye outlined a five-point strategy to becoming a permanent overcomer, calling on believers to take control of their senses, words, actions, and desires.
“Train your ears. Faith comes by hearing the word of God. But fear also comes through what you hear. It’s not how much you listen, but how well you listen,” he advised.
He cautioned against consuming negative media, urging listeners to focus instead on the Gospel, which he described as the “true Good News.”
He went on to challenge the audience’s perception and focus.
“Victory doesn’t depend solely on what you see but on how you see it. Are you looking at the mountain, or at the One who existed before the mountain?” he added.
Turning to the power of the tongue, the revered cleric warned: “What you say is what you will have. Your mouth exposes your faith. Stop complaining praise God instead. Use your words to declare His will and to cast out demons.”
He further admonished Christians to be watchful of their actions, especially the use of their hands: “Don’t sign false reports, don’t forge documents, and don’t touch anything unclean. Keep your hands clean and God will fight for you.”
To conclude the sermon, Pastor Adeboye pointed to biblical figures like Moses and Solomon as cautionary examples of how unresolved weaknesses can destroy divine potential.
“Moses was mightily used by God, but his anger cost him the Promised Land. Solomon, loved by God and full of wisdom, ended up declaring everything vanity. If you want to be a champion forever, do something about your weak point. Life is not a joke. This spiritual warfare is serious business,” he noted.
Adding a moment of joy to the solemn message, Pastor Adeboye announced that 50 babies, 34 boys and 16 girls, had been born at the church’s maternity centre since the start of the convention. The news was met with loud applause and celebration among worshippers.
The RCCG convention, themed “The Overcomers,” continues this week with thousands of participants from across Nigeria and abroad gathering for prayers, teachings, and spiritual renewal.
