Woman Struck, Killed By Truck Carrying Trump Military Parade Tank In DC

The a 39-year-old woman was hit by the semitruck on U.S. Route 50, in Northeast Washington.

The vehicle — operated by a contract truck driver — was part of the convoy leaving the U.S. Army’s 250th anniversary event and was hauling an M1 Abrams tank from a staging area not far from the Lincoln Memorial to a railroad in nearby Maryland, according to an Army document obtained by USA Today.

Officers found the woman “unconscious and not breathing” at the scene and, despite first responders’ attempts to save her life, was later pronounced dead, per a spokesperson for D.C.’s Metropolitan Police Department.

An investigation is underway. An initial police probe found no evidence of criminal intent or negligence by the driver.

The Army declined to answer USA Today’s questions on the accident, referring the outlet instead to D.C. police.

Saturday’s parade, which was slammed for evoking those seen in authoritarian regimes and helped spark millions of people to participate in “No Kings” protests over the weekend, is estimated to cost taxpayers $45 million.
