A Virginia woman’s alleged plans to have someone killed were stopped by police. Now she’s charged with criminal solicitation of murder.
On Nov. 26, 44-year-old Gennevieve McGhee was communicating with a “confidential source,” according to the Henry County Sheriff’s Office in a media release posted to Facebook. The source was working with law enforcement and was able to record audio and video of their conversation with McGhee at her home in Ridgeway, Virginia, a town close to the state’s border with North Carolina. During that meeting, she allegedly provided “detailed” information on the robbery and murder of an unidentified individual.
McGhee conducted one of the conversations with the informant at her home. During that conversation, while “[a]cting under law enforcement direction, the source utilized a recording device that captured audio and video evidence during their interactions.” A positive identification of McGhee was made on the recording, and on Nov. 27, she was arrested and brought into custody.

The sheriff’s office said in its release that “[d]uring the exchange, McGhee allegedly discussed detailed plans regarding payment arrangements and provided instructions for carrying out the robbery and murder. According to the evidence, McGhee gave detailed instructions how she wanted this carried out.”
The sheriff’s office did not identify the target of the plot or the informant. McGhee is being held at the Henry County Adult Detention Center without bond. She was charged with criminal solicitation of murder and conspiracy to commit a felony.
The case is currently under review at the Henry County Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office and the investigation is ongoing.
