An Illinois woman is facing a litany of criminal charges after she allegedly attacked her boyfriend with a vehicle while drunk and upset.
Emily Mora, 27, stands accused of one count each of aggravated domestic battery, aggravated battery resulting in great bodily harm, domestic battery resulting in bodily harm, domestic battery with physical contact, driving a motor vehicle without insurance resulting in bodily harm, and two counts of driving under the influence of alcohol, according to Lake County court records reviewed by Law&Crime.
The incident occurred on Oct. 10, in Mundelein, a medium-sized village and suburban area north of Chicago. The defendant was released the same day she was arrested after a brief probable cause hearing during which she was assigned a public defender, court records show.
During that hearing, prosecutors say the woman “gunned it,” using an idiom that refers to a driver rapidly accelerating their vehicle by revving the automobile’s engine while in drive, according to a courtroom report by the Lake & McHenry County Scanner.
Mora’s boyfriend suffered significant injuries from the attack, Lake County Assistant State’s Attorney Manuel Mandujano reportedly said.
According to the state, Mora and the victim were together in the vehicle and had left a bar in Wheeling – roughly 30 minutes due south.
As the couple drove through Mundelein, they argued, the prosecutor said. At some point, in a Domino’s parking lot, her boyfriend – who was driving at first – pulled over and got out of the car.
Mora allegedly slid over, took the wheel, and the two briefly went their separate ways. But then the girlfriend allegedly changed her mind.
Citing witnesses, Mandujano reportedly told the court that Mora performed a U-turn and went after her boyfriend to pick him up. But, the boyfriend began to run. At that point, prosecutors claim, Mora no longer aimed to pick him up – but, rather, to mow him down.

The defendant was arrested by the Mundelein Police Department after witnesses attested to the fast rate of speed she used to run into the victim, prosecutors reportedly told the court. Officers also allegedly determined that Mora was under the influence of alcohol at the time.
Law&Crime reached out to the MPD for additional details and comment on this story but no response was immediately forthcoming.
Mora was released by Lake County Judge Ari Fisz because prosecutors did not seek to detain her pending trial, the paper reported. She was released on pretrial conditions, records show.
Lake County court records also show several prior traffic and misdemeanor cases against a woman named Emily Mora.
The defendant is next slated to appear in court on Tuesday. An additional court date in the case is scheduled for Oct. 26.
