Wisconsin Mom Charged in Connection With Drowning Death of Tot Son

A Wisconsin mother was arrested this week after her 1 year old son drowned in the bathtub while she cooked breakfast.

Selena Doxzon, 28, told investigators that she bathed her two sons — a 3-year-old and the 1-year-old — then left them in the tub to play while she went into the kitchen, cooked breakfast, and began washing dishes, according to WDJT.

She said she was there for about four minutes when the older boy came into the room “soaking wet.” She went to bathroom to get a towel and found the younger boy floating face up and unresponsive, Law&Crime reported.

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel said a neighbor responded to Doxzon’s cries for help and assisted with CPR until medics arrived. The boy, identifed as Asher Wyatt Doxzon, was taken to Children’s Wisconsin hospital, where he was declared dead.

According to the criminal complaint, Doxzon said she usually washed the boys separately and only recently had begun putting the younger child into the tub instead of the sink, WDJT said.

According to the complaint, the water in the tub was about 3 1/2 to 4 inches deep, reaching the older boy’s belly when he sat in the tub. The Milwaukee County Medical Examiner’s Office determined the cause of death to be asphyxiation as a result of drowning.

Doxzon was charged with on count of neglect of a child causing death. Her bond was set at $10,000, and she is due back in court for a preliminary hearing on May 30.
