A Wisconsin man who punched another man in the head over his “sinful” tattoos was found guilty Thursday of felony murder.
The jury deliberated for about 12 hours before finding Keven Sehmer, 65, guilty in the death of Josh Davies, who was out with his wife for a date night on June 17, 2023, WITI reported.
Davis died from his injures a month later, as CrimeOnline reported. Sehmer was initially charged with aggravated battery after the incident. He told detectives he didn’t punch Davies but “violently pushed” him because he was angry and upset.
Witnesses said they heard Sehmer make comments about Davies’s tattooes while they were still inside the bar, telling the younger man he was “going to hell and God would not save him.” Video showed Sehmer following Davies when he left to get away from the angry man while people tried to hold him back.
Sehmer argued in court that he pushed Davies because Davies came at him with a bar stool, which clearly didn’t happen outside the bar.
Ultimately, the jury believed the testimony of the Waukesha County medical examiner, who said that Davies’s injuries could only have come from an extreme force, while Sehmer admitted pushing him but said that he didn’t “think that’s fair” to call it violent shove.
Davies fell backward from the force of the shove and struck his head on the concrete, suffering multiple skull fractures and brain bleeds.”
Sehmer faces 30 years in prison when he is sentenced on September 6, Law&Crime said.
