The youth approaches the boy and attempts to attack him in broad daylight during a fight

This is the shocking moment a young teenager attempted to attack another with a knife in broad daylight.

Video footage filmed by an Uber driver in Rotherhithe, south east London on Tuesday shows one teenager in a dark hoodie with a blade in his right hand.

The teenager starts off fighting with the other youth. Several punches are exchanged before the knife is fully seen.

Footage then shows the boy, with blade in hand, walking up to the other teenager and threatening to stab him. The boy then cycles away.

The incident is the latest terrifying incident to plague south east London after a surge in knife crime over the last 12 months.

Figures released by the Met Police show there were 501 knife crime incidents in Greenwich in 2023, a 24.3 percent increase on 2022.

Meanwhile in Southwark, 736 incidents occurred in 2023, a 3.5 percent increase on 2022.

A Met Police spokesperson told MailOnline: ‘We are aware of a distressing video circulating on social media which shows a male holding a knife and waving it at another person.

‘This video was taken on Rotherhithe New Road, SE16, at around 12:25hrs on Tuesday, 30 January.

‘Officers were made aware of this incident and attended the scene shortly after. Despite searching the area, there was no trace of the man at this time.’

They added: ‘We would like to reassure local residents that enquiries into this incident are ongoing.

‘We would encourage anyone who was in the area at the time and witnessed anything or who has any information about the identity of the male to get in touch with police as soon as possible.

‘You can call us on 101 or post on ‘X’ @MetCC and quote CAD 5003/3.’

Meanwhile, four teenagers were convicted of two murder charges each after police detectives pieced together a complex case through detailed analysis of CCTV footage.

Alagie Jobe, 19, Hussain Bah, 19, a 16-year-old and an 18-year-old were convicted of two counts of murder last Friday at Inner London Crown Court.

A double murder investigation was launched on November 26, 2022 after two 16-year-olds – Charlie Bartolo and Kearne Solanke – were found with fatal stab injuries just one mile apart in Greenwich.

Initially, there was no obvious link between the two murders. However, police quickly identified a sequence of events.

Bartolo and two friends were riding motorbikes on Sewell Road at around 5pm when  Bartolo was deliberately rammed by a car which came towards him. He was thrown over the handlebars and into the air.

Solanke, Jobe and the 16-year-old defendant got out of the passenger side where Bartolo had fallen before stabbing him eight times in the head.

CCTV footage shows each of the attackers used large knives to injure Bartolo. In the chaos, Kearne had also been accidentally stabbed by one of his friends.

Two others who got out of the driver’s side of the car did not physically participate in the violence – although the driver was armed with a knife.

Solanke then got back into the car with the rest of the group, and they all drove away.

But, when the car reached Titmuss Avenue only a mile away, the group abandoned the car and they abandoned Kearne to die on the pavement.

Detective Chief Inspector Kate Blackburn said: ‘I am glad that all four defendants have been found guilty. It was an unusual case in that the murder of Kearne Solanke, was obviously not what the group had set out to achieve.

‘However, we successfully proved that the group, in the course of their joint attack, intended to cause death or at least really serious injury and, one of their members was, sadly, an inadvertent victim of that.

‘This case demonstrates the utter devastation caused by knife crime and people who arm themselves with large knives, not only risk killing those they see as enemies, but also people they consider their friends. My thoughts, and those of my team, remain with the families of both Charlie and Kearne.’

Meanwhile, police arrested two teenagers, aged 14 and 15, after several mobile phones were stolen in Greenwich.

Police were called to Eastside Park last Sunday at around 11:30am. Victims reported the pair snatched the phones from their hands while on e-bikes.

Similar calls were received about more incidents between Deptford and the O2.

Using data and quick time intelligence to link the pattern, officers managed to locate two teenagers. Seven mobile phones and one machete were recovered.

Both were arrested on suspicion of theft while the 14-year-old was also arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon and later charged. He appeared at Bromley Magistrates’ Youth Court on Tuesday, January 30.

Three of the phones have been returned to their rightful owners and work is ongoing to trace the owners of the remaining phones.

Superintendent Jim Corbett, who leads on emergency response across south east London, said: ‘We know theft is a big worry for people, and it is frightening to have something snatched from you.

‘As soon as we started getting the calls officers responded. They quickly identified suspects who were arrested and a number of mobile phones – and a machete – were recovered.

‘We will continue our work to crack down on this type of crime which has a significant impact on victims.’

The incidents comes as the latest figures released by the Met Police show that knife crime in the London Borough of Greenwich and Southwark, where the incidents took place, increased.

The latest ONS data shows 12,786 knife offences were carried out in London over the year leading to March 2023, a 16 per cent increase from the year before.

The total number of crimes recorded by police in England and Wales stood at 6.7 million in 2022/23, compared with 6.3 million in 2021/22.
