The man who allegedly attacked three security guards and a nurse at Westmead Hospital is under police guard

A man is under police guard after allegedly going on a rampage at a Western Sydney hospital and injuring four staff.

Police were called to Westmead Hospital about 11.30pm on Friday night after reports a man, 39, had assaulted staff.

When officers arrived they found two security guards, aged 24 and 25, with stab wounds, a third security guard with a dislocated shoulder and a male nurse, 29, who suffered minor injuries.

All four are understood to be recovering.

The alleged knifeman is understood to have been a patient at the hospital.

He remains at Westmead under police guard.
