West Virginia Couple Arrested After Kids Found in Home With Raw Sewage, Fly Infestation

A West Virginia couple has been charged with child neglect after their four children were found in a home with raw sewage and an infestation of flies.

According to WBOY the sheriff’s office launched an investigaton in May when one of the children, a 13-year-old boy, contacted police alleging that the parents had beaten him. When deputies arrived, they “observed bruises and blood on the juvenile” and contacted Child Protective Services.

Deputies and child welfare agents found that “trash scattered throughout the front of the residence with an eroded stairway leading to the front door,” as well as “trash and dirt on the floor with a strong odor of raw sewage coming from the bathroom.”

Thge deputies found the raw sewage was coming from an overflowing toilet, and the bathroom had an infestation of flies. CPS workers found three more juveniles — 1, 3, and 11 — in a bedroom. The 3-year-old had a feeding tube and was lying on “a dirty mattress on the floor. That child “seemed to be malnourished,” a complaint said.

Daniel Perkins, 56, and Samantha Perkins, 34, were both charged with neglect causing bodily injury, WDTV reported. Additionally, the father was charged with child abuse. They’re being held in the North Central Regional Jail on $50,000 bonds each.

All four children were taken into state custody.
