On January 30, 2022, during a follow-up investigation into Timothy and Tracy Ferriter’s runaway son, Florida detectives made an unusual discovery in the couple’s garage.
There was an 8-by-8-foot cell-like structure equipped with a deadbolt on the outside and a mattress, bucket, and ring camera inside. After the teenage boy was located at his school the following day, he reported to police that his parents would lock him in the room for up to 18 hours daily.
The defense claims the ring video will show that the longest the boy was in the room for at one time was 10 hours, which only occurred once. Police say the teen was confined to the structure after school hours, where he would be forced to use the bucket as a bathroom.

The Ferriters claim that their adopted son suffers from Reactive Attachment Disorder and that they were monitoring his dangerous and aggressive behavior through the camera in the makeshift room. Police documents from a previous investigation into the Ferriters will be admitted into the trial along with three witnesses who will attest to the boy’s behavior.
Ferriter faces charges of aggravated child abuse, false imprisonment and neglect of a child.
Tracy Ferriter also faces charges and will be tried at a later date.
