After a reported assault at Mashpee High School in Massachusetts, a 15-year-old teen was found safe earlier this week after vanishing Sunday.

“I’m happy to announce our missing juvenile has been located safely in the town of Barnstable,” Mashpee Police Chief Scott W. Carline said in a video statement.

Aliyah Konton, who had recently enrolled in the school, was last seen Sunday in the Cape Drive area, according to the Mashpee Police Department. Officials said she was located safe Wednesday.

A family friend told ABC 5 that she was attacked at the school shortly before she vanished.

“There was sone hitting and they pulled her into the bathroom and then they forced her to lick the bathroom floor.”

Carline said Wednesday afternoon that an investigation into the incident led to the 13-year-old girl’s arrest. She has been charged with assault.

“As a result of this investigation seven counts of Assault and Battery (M.G.L. Chapter 265 Section 13A) have been filed in the Falmouth District Court Juvenile Division against a thirteen-year-old juvenile female involved in this incident,” Carline said in a written statement.

The assault was videoed and placed Snapchat and it appeared that Konton was the victim, Carline said. The possibility of potential accomplices is still being investigated.

A student at the school told ABC 5 that Aliyah was new to the school and “was just trying to fit in.”

Anyone with information about the assault is asked to contact the Mashpee Police Department Detective Bureau at 508-539-1480.
