Virginia Nurse Arrested After Babies in Hospital Neonatal Unit Found With ‘Unexplained Fractures’

A former Virginia nurse charged with injuring a 5-month-baby at the hospital where she worked was slapped Monday with several more charges.

Six new charges — two counts of malicious wounding and four counts of child abuse and neglect — relate to two additional babies, WWBT reports.

Erin Strotman was charged with malicious wounding, child abuse, and neglect causing serious injury earlier this year after the Henrico Police Department launched an investigation into seven cases of mysterious injuries to infants in Henrico Doctors’ Hospital’s neo-natal intensive care unit in 2023 and 2024, as CrimeOnline reported.

The initial charges related to a baby who was found hurt in November, and investigators said they found surveillance video showing Strotman mishandling the infant. In December, the hospital said it was looking into “unexplained fractures” found in three babies in late 2024 and four others in 2023. The hospital stopped accepting babies into its NICU as a result of the incidents.

Henrico Commonwealth Attorney Shannon Taylor said similar evidence has been uncovered in the new cases, WWBT said.

“Not just video but also other evidence,” she said. “Without going into details of this case, however, one of the things we can look at is to see if there is a pattern of behavior.”

Strotman was given a $25,000 bond last month with conditions that included house arrest at her parents, wearing a GPS monitor, and not being allowed to be in the presence of minors or vulnerable adults.

She is due back in court on March 20.
