A 23-year-old Virginia woman wanted for the murder of her three older roommates earlier this week was taken into custody Thursday after a high speed chase on a New York highway.
Alyssa Jane Venable was arrested shortly before 6 p.m. after New York State Police saw the gray Honda Civic she was driving on Interstate 86 in Steuben County, nearly 300 miles from the crime scene in Virginia, the Spotsylvania County Sheriff’s Office said.
Venable refused to stop and sped away when troopers tried to initiate a traffic stop. Speeds reached 100 mph before troopers used a tire deflation device that cause the Honda to crash. She was taken to a local hospital as a precaution.
As CrimeOnline reported, deputies were called to a home in Spotsylvania County at about 10 p.m. Tuesday night and found two men and a woman dead “from upper body trauma.” The victims were identified as 77-year-old John McGuire, 60-year-old Gregory Scott Powell, and 65-year-old Carol Anne Reese.
Deputies identified Venable as their suspect and obtained warrants charging her with three counts of second degree murder and use of a firearm during the commission of a felony.
The sheriff’s office said that police in New York are obtaining a fugitive warrant for Venable and that the extradition process is under way.
