A man is believed to have died on Monday in an explosion at his Virginia home as police attempted to serve a search warrant.
Homeowner James Yoo, 56, allegedly fired shots at police officers from his Arlington home shortly before the explosion. ARL Now reported that police along with SWAT zeroed in on Yoo’s home after he repeatedly fired a flare gun over Fields Park.

Aside from Yoo’s presumed death, no serious injuries were reported. Three police officers suffered minor injuries that did not require hospitalization, according to WRC.

A resident told the news outlet that they heard police on a megaphone, telling the suspect to come out of the home. The resident also claimed that the explosion occurred after police used a battering ram on the front door and shots were fired.
Speaking with ARL Now, another resident said Yoo was a recluse who kept aluminum foil over his windows. The resident alleged that a couple of years ago, Yoo’s home was up for sale and he chased off prospective buyers with a knife.
The Associated Press reported that Yoo had filed multiple lawsuits against his ex-wife, sister, a moving company, and the New York Supreme Court. All were dismissed for being frivolous.
The cause of Monday’s explosion remains under investigation.
