Attorneys representing jailed South Carolina lawyer Alex Murdaugh held a press conference on Tuesday, on the heels of filing a motion to get Murdaugh a new trial for the murders of his wife and son.
According to The Independent, Dick Harpootlian and Jim Griffin claimed that jurors have spoken out after South Carolina Clerk of Court Rebecca Hill released her tell-all book about the high-profile trial which ended with Murdaugh’s conviction. Griffin and Harrpootlian said jurors refused to speak with them after the trial, but they broke their silence to express displeasure at Hill’s book.
When asked if they ever contacted Hill about possible juror tampering and misconduct, Griffin said, “Based on the information we received, we thought it would be pointless.”
In their 65-page motion, Murdaugh’s attorneys claimed Hill rushed jurors to reach a verdict so that she could secure a book deal and media appearance, as CrimeOnline reported earlier today.
“During the trial, Ms. Hill asked jurors for their opinions about Mr. Murdaugh’s guilt or innocence. Ms. Hill invented a story about a Facebook post to remove a juror she believed might not vote guilty,” Murdaugh’s lawyers also wrote.
Murdaugh was convicted in March of killing his wife and son and was sentenced to life in prison. Griffin said during Monday’s press conference that he is confident Murdaugh will get a new trial.

Meanwhile, Hill denied these allegations to The Daily Beast.
“It’s totally not true,” she said. “This is crazy.”
